We were pretty lucky to get to see the sloth bear. It was hiding, and we had just given up and moved on when a small child saw a glimpse of fur and alerted THE ENTIRE COUNTY to the fact that I SEE A BEAR! THERE’S A BEAR! BEAR, MAMA, BEAR!!

Thank you, small child.

Check out the nails on this guy! And the hair extensions!

Sloth bears, or at least this one, are relatively petite. In fact, based on size, pedicure, and temperament, they were once classified as sloths rather than bears. I guess when they figured out that they were actually bears, their creative animal name person was out to lunch,

Stole R’s camera so that I could get this picture off of it for today’s Daily JPG:

That’s my sister and me, holding the smallest of the bear cubs from Yellowstone Bear World. We’re also sporting some mad Threadless duds. 🙂

Today we drove to Nampa and waited in line for two hours for the chance to see and hold little baby bear cubs from Yellowstone Bear World. It was really pretty darn special. I’ve always had a very soft spot for bears, and to actually hold a cub – wow. I don’t have any pictures of myself just yet (need to pilfer other peoples’ cameras) but in the meantime, I’ll share this rather-cute photo of a boy and his grandmother catching a glimpse of a cub as it was being traded out after a long half hour of cuddling and posing.

Incidentally, I’ve found the place where I’d like to get a summer job. 🙂
